“Do nothing just to benefit yourself or to make yourself look good. Instead, be humble and think of others as more important than yourself. Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3-4)
When we choose to follow Jesus, we’re saying that we believe he’s the reason we’re saved. He sacrificed himself on the cross and came back to life, freeing those who trust in him from sin and death. So, what does this mean for us? It means we can’t just live for ourselves anymore. Simply going to church and trying to be nicer isn’t enough. Following Jesus means changing who we are deep down. In 2 Corinthians, it talks about becoming a totally new person. The old ways are gone, and we’re starting fresh. But what does that really look like?
Well, it means treating others differently, whether they’re family, coworkers, or people in our community. Philippians 2 tells us to stop focusing only on ourselves and to start thinking about how we can help others. In our families, this means treating each family member with kindness and respect. We need to listen to them, understand their feelings, and be quick to apologize when we mess up. We should stick together as a team, always looking out for each other and being there to help when needed.
The same goes for work. We should work as a team, with leaders setting a good example by serving others. We should always be ready to help each other out. When problems come up, we need to work together to solve them in a way that works for everyone. And when dealing with customers, their needs should be our top priority. We need to be honest and communicate openly so everyone knows what’s going on.
In our communities, we should be humble and treat everyone with respect. We should work together to solve problems and improve everyone’s lives. Nobody should feel left out or ignored, and we should support each other in whatever we do.
There are plenty of places where we can practice these skills, like at church, work, or even just hanging out with friends. Following Jesus isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely worth it. So, let’s start with our families and workplaces and see how much of a difference we can make when we let Jesus guide us.
Is there somewhere you can make a difference? A place where you can put others’ needs ahead of your own? The time is now, and you have everything you need to do it. You don’t need any special training or permission. You can start today, whether it’s at the breakfast table or at work. It’s a great chance to be like Jesus and make him happy, and you’ve got what it takes!
